The Independents — “Chuck, Helen, Eric, Maurice”
A Chicago vocal group that never quite got their due — and this sophomore LP is exactly where the story gets interesting. Their R&B chart run was unreal: “Leaving Me” hit #1, “Baby I’ve Been Missing You” went to #4. This sophomore LP pushed past the ballad formula — “The Same Old Way” is a barebones blues-funk revelation, and “I Found Love On a Rainy Day” sounds like something Thom Bell might have written for The Spinners. Underrated record. Worth every cent of the ask.
Genre: Funk / Soul
Year: 1973
Label: Wand — WDS 696
Country: US
Condition: Media: VG / Sleeve: VG
Notes: Original Wand pressing.
