Johnny Pacheco & Pete “El Conde” Rodríguez — "Jicamo"
The compadres in year three of their reunion — and still cooking. Jícamo (1985) is the third of four albums Pacheco and El Conde recorded together after reuniting in 1983, following a decade of successful solo work. By now they’d found their second-act footing: rootsy conjunto, Afro-Cuban roots, Tite Curet Alonso compositions, the formula they’d built together in the early Fania years. “Tu Barriga,” “Díle,” “Son de Callejon” — eight tracks, no filler. Sandwiched between the Grammy-nominated Salsobita (1987) that followed and the commercial peak of the reunion era, Jícamo is the quiet middle chapter that serious compadres collectors want.
Genre: Latin / Salsa
Year: 1985
Label: Fania Records — JM-638
Country: Venezuela
Condition: Media: VG / Sleeve: VG
Notes: Venezuelan pressing, manufactured by El Palacio De La Música S.A. One visible mark on vinyl, does not affect play. Minor wear on back cover.
