John Fahey - "The New Possibility: John Fahey's Guitar Soli Christmas Album"
The acoustic guitar masterpiece that changed Christmas music forever. Originally released in 1968, this became Fahey's best-selling recording with over 100,000 copies sold initially and has been continually in print, making it a true American Primitivism landmark. Fahey explained: "I was in the back of a record store in July and I saw all these cartons of Bing Crosby's White Christmas albums. The clerk said it always sells out. So I got the idea to do a Christmas album that would sell every year" (Ace Records). This 1974 Takoma reissue (TAK-7020) features Fahey's genius solo steel-string guitar interpretations of traditional carols like "Joy to the World," "Silent Night," "What Child Is This?," and "Good King Wenceslas," transforming familiar holiday songs into haunting, meditative soundscapes.
