Lalo González “Piporro” was one of the great comic-corrido performers of the 20th century — a Chihuahuan singer, comedian, and actor whose sharp wit and storytelling made him a beloved figure across the Mexican-American borderlands. This 1979 US pressing on Gas Records captures him in full corrido mode, bringing the border ballad tradition to stateside audiences. The corrido is Mexican music’s original narrative form — newspaper, folk history, and drama all at once — and Piporro was one of its most entertaining voices.
